Week 7 in Sri Lanka -

For those who wish to travel to Hikkaduwa around christmas time dont do it, the line up becomes a people fest, bodies everywhere and drop ins happen on almost every wave you take off on and i made an ememy with a guy who hates girl surfers ...however, if you like the party scene Hikkaduwa is the place to go, as there is an endless stretch of beach bars.

Every year since the tsunami the locals organize a paddle out, which was very humbling, with over 100 surfers that took part, we all paddled out for 1 mins silence where a reef was placed in the ocean and we were all given flowers to place into the water... a speach was made about how we are all surfers and we should stick together and look out for each other, so i personally think that made my christmas, as i had previously travelled to Sri Lanka the year before the Tsunami for my dads wedding, so it was nice to come back and see how they have managed to rebuild.

To be honest the waves havent been as good as epected and people who have been here before have said that the sand has moved, so crowded waves + bad waves = a very agro Allannah...

I have now travelled down south to Medigama, where it is a lot quieter...hal-a-loo-yar! there are several breaks here, the 2 main breaks being:

Ram's - which is a super shallow sucky wave, which is known to be a sick barreling wave on its day

Lazy lefts - my kind of wave! can hold big swells, and produces a nice realling wave which is nice and wall'y, not for begginers though, as the take off is in front of several big boulders...so you cant go straight...

there are around 4 other spots as well, such as coconuts and plantations, but they only go when the swells are right.

The accommodation can be pretty cheap but if you go, do NOT stay in the Hilton hotel, sounds flashy, but i assure you its not...i was paying 350 rupees a nght, which is £2 back home, but i woke up to screaming in the morning, and when i went outside to see what the noise was, the rest of my feinds were saying how a 5ft snake had gone into one of the girls rooms, so the guys who own the place went in and beated it out of the room and it made a beeline for the bushes. so yeaaahhhh dont go to the hilton, they dont have gates and they have random locals walking in and out and the men there made me feel uneasy, so i didnt really trust leaving my stuff.  So i stayed there for a night and went to Rams surf lodge which is a dream come true!

Unfortunetly i had an accident the other day on the way back down from a turn i stepped off my rail and my board flipped up and hit me in the face, splitting my eyebrow open, so me refusing to go to hospital, i had to wait for it to stop bleeding for 5 hours until i could wack some butterfly stitches on it, so im out of action for a few days which is why i have found the time to do this :)
